FAQ

NOW THAT I HAVE BOOKED HOW TO I GET INTO THE HO– USE? DO YOU MEET ME WITH KEYS?
About 7-10 days prior to your check in day we will email you instructions and a “Welcome To Beech Mt” paper. The instructions will include your own personal 4 digit code to get into the home. As you can see in the photo to the left you will find a lock box on the door. The code we send you will give you a key to the home. There will be a second key on the kitchen counter. If you didn’t receive the email then please check your “Spam” folder in your email to see if its there. If you still can’t find the email then give us a call or CONTACT US.

DO I NEED TO BRING LINENS (SHEETS AND TOWELS)?
The house will be prepped prior to your arrival with fresh clean linens on the bed and each room will have a stack of towels, hand towels and wash clothes on the bed ready for you.

WHAT IF WE GET THERE AND SOMETHING ISN’T WORKING?
Well we do have local management on Beech Mt that looks after the home and preps it for your arrival. If there is an issue you can contact us or you can call Crystal our local girl and she will do her best to help you. Crystal’s phone number is 828-387-1404

DO YOU HAVE CONDIMENTS IN THE REFRIGERATOR (ketchup, mustard, mayo…)?
This is something we are often asked. For health reason that is something we do not supply at the house. We do not provide anything food related.
We do however have salt and pepper there and there are some spices. We don’t have sugar there (because we don’t want bugs) but there might be a
packet or two of sugar and sweet-n-low but no guarantees of that. The closest place on the mountain to pick up food is Freds General Store but they have very limited amount. The closest grocery store is Food Lion which is located in Banner Elk about 20 min away. If you drove thru Banner Elk chances are you passed it but if not here is the address if you want to GPS it: 3555 Tynecastle Hwy, Banner Elk, NC 28604 (828)898-6318

DOES THE KITCHEN HAVE A COFFEE POT AND CROCK POT?
YES! Because we visit the homes a few times a year we have made sure it has everything that you would need (because we use it too). You will find a microwave, coffee pot (regular and a keurig), large crock pot, blender, waffle iron, toaster, lots of different pots and pans, cookie sheets, pizza sheets, mixing bowls, casserole bakeware and even a BBQ grill (gas). We also have plenty of dishes, lots of glasses, plastic cups, coffee mugs, stake knives, and silver ware.

DO YOU HAVE WIFI AND CABLE TV? HOW MANY TV’S?
Yes each house has its own secure WIFI (the password is stuck to the refrigerator). Yes we have cable TV. Every bedroom has a TV in it and the living rooms and game room (Lakeledge has a game room) has a TV in it.

DO YOU REALLY NEED CHAINS OR 4X4 IN THE WINTER TIME AND HOW STEEP IS THE DRIVEWAY AT PONDVIEW?
This is one of those things that it really depends on the weather. There are times when no they are not needed but we would rather tell you ahead of time that you might need them because during heavy snow days yes you will need them. The driveway at the LAKELEDGE home has never been an issue its a easy in/out driveway and its level so if you are worried about the weather this is the home I would recommend. The PONDVIEW home does have a steep long driveway and again depending on weather conditions this could or couldn’t be a problem, In the winter time we will provide some salt in the garage but if you would like the driveway scraped that would be an additional charge that you would have to pay. 2013 was a very hard winter in Beech Mt with lots of below 0 temps and heavy snow (way below the normal temps for that time of year) and there was one occasion that the renters had to park at the bottom of the driveway and walk up. I have no way to predict the weather so it you are concerned at all then we recommend the LAKELEDGE home.  If you are not use to driving in the winter snow then we do not recommend Pondview.

HOW MANY CARS CAN PARK IN THE DRIVEWAY?
Pondview has a long driveway and can hold the most, easily 5 cars but as we have stated the driveway is steep so in the winter (if there is snow and ice) it might be harder to park that many. So with Pondview its weather permitting 5 cars and again we have no control over the weather so we make no guarantees on that home. Lakeledge has a flat driveway so parking isn’t an issue and you can park 4 cars in the driveway.

DO WE NEED TO SUPPLY SOAPS AND PAPER PRODUCTS?
Each bathroom will have a new bar of soap and liquid hand soap (like softsoap) next to the sink. The bathroom will also have a roll of toilet paper and an additional roll on the back of the toilet. You will need to supply your own shampoo/conditioner and any liquid body soap or lotions. In the kitchen we will supply a roll of paper towels, dish washing soap packets, dawn dish soap for the sink and trash bags. You will also find hand towels, wash clothes and oven mitts in the kitchen. We do not supply laundry soap for the washer but both houses are equipped with full size washer and dryers.

WHAT TIME IS CHECK IN AND CHECK OUT?
Check in time is 4pm and check out is 11am. CAN WE CHECK IN EARLY OR LEAVE LATER? That depends on if we have a back to back check in or check out. If you plan to be there before 4pm or if you have to stay past 11am then you need to check with us PRIOR to your arrival. We will do everything possible to make your stay perfect but there are times we need those hours to prep the home for you or for the guest coming in after you. If you arrive early and we are still prepping the house we might suggest that you go grab a bite to eat or go shopping while we finish up. Again we will try and work with you but PLEASE CHECK WITH US PRIOR TO ARRIVAL.

CAN WE BRING OUR DOG/CAT, HE/SHE IS LITTLE AND DOESN’T SHED?
No because of allergies we do not allow dogs even if they are the non allergic type of breed.

ARE YOU MEMBERS OF BEECH MOUNTAIN COUNTRY CLUB?
No because its very costly not only for the membership but for renters who rent the house (they get you for extra fees). Since we honestly are not golfers ourselves we would never use it. If you are a golfer then there are plenty of public golf courses around along with swimming. Please see our Summer page for a list of them along with other activities.

IS THERE ANYTHING WE SHOULD DO PRIOR TO VISITING THE HOMES?
I always recommend if you are coming up in winter time and plan to take ski lessons to call the resort prior to arriving to schedule them as they book up fast (Ski Beech Mt 800-438-2093). If you are visiting in the Summer and would like to go white water rafting or mountain climbing then I would also recommend calling to schedule this as they book up fast and ahead of time. For white water rafting and mountain climbing we highly recommend Edge of the World (located in Banner Elk) 828-898-9550

CAN WE RENT THE HO– USE DIRECTLY THRU YOU (UNDER THE TABLE TO AVOID TAXES)?
Yes we are asked this often and the simple answer is no. For insurance and liability reasons we only rent thru the booking websites:

WHEN DO YOU REFUND THE “REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT”?
The booking websites hold the deposits we do not, generally they refund them in 7 to 10 days but it might take longer depending on your bank and which site you booked thru.

WHAT IF I HAVE TO CANCEL?
If you cancel please send us a message. We are on a few different rental websites and each one has a slightly different cancellation policy. You can get trip insurance thru a 3rd party company if you wish but we have no control over how they process refunds or how it works.  If you have to cancel and its more then 30 days we will work with you to reschedule your trip.

DO WE HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT WILD LIFE IN THE TRASH (BEARS AND RACCOONS)?
YES! We do have garbage containers outside in wildlife proof boxes. We have also learned that nothing is really wildlife proof. We ask our guest to please Take their trash to the recycling center (they also take garbage) across the street from Fred’s General Store.  If you do try and use the garbage containers and the bears get into it you will need to clean it up or possibly lose your security deposit.  We love the wildlife but what a mess they can make plus trust me the last thing you want to do is walk out of the home to find a 400 lb black bear sitting on the trash container eating last nights table scraps, true story it happened to us.

THERE ARE SO MANY DEER AND TURKEY CAN WE HUNT HERE?
Hunting is not allowed on the mountain, if you try you will get an extended stay in the county jail.  The reason the wildlife is so friendly is because there is no hunting.
